About Audi Cup

Audi Cup History, Format, Organization, Media Coverage

The Audi Cup is a two-day association football tournament hosted by Bundesliga club Bayern Munich. The biennial pre-season tournament features four teams, including the Bavarians, and is played at the Allianz Arena in Munich, Germany.

The competition replaced the Franz-Beckenbauer-Cup in 2009 in honor of car manufacturer Audi AG. AC Milan, Real Madrid, Fenerbahce, Boca Juniors, Manchester City, Liverpool, Sao Paolo, Napoli, Manchester United, and Internacional are among the top clubs to have participated in this invitational tournament.

The competition has the format of any regular knockout competition. Winners of each of the two games on Matchday 1 progress to the final and contest for the Audi Cup. The two losing teams feature in a third-place playoff. The tournament takes place before the Bundesliga season commences.
