Generation Adidas Cup History, Format, Organization, Media Coverage
The Generation Adidas Cup, or the SUM U-17 Cup as it was previously known, is a competition contested by U-17 MLS academy teams. It was founded in 2007 with the purpose of developing young players and offering them elite competition. In 2014, the decision to invite foreign clubs was made in order to test MLS academies against international teams. Stoke City became the first international champion that same year, ushering in a five-year dominance by foreign clubs until their reign was ended by Seattle Sounders FC in 2019.
