The Uruguayan defender pulled his side back into the encounter with a cracking header in Friday's matchup.

Inter Milan center-back Diego Godin landed a new record by scoring a snappy equalizer in Inter Milan's Europa League final clash with Sevilla on Friday night. The 34-year-old Uruguayan became the first defender in history to score in both the UEFA Champions League and the Europa League finals by ensuring that the first half of the night's encounter ended with both sides having two goals apiece.

A pulsating half of football ensued at the RheinEnergieSTADION in Cologne with both Sevilla and Inter Milan doing more than enough to persistently flaunt their attacking prowesses. It all began with a penalty in the 5th minute which Lukaku converted to match a record previously held by Inter legend Ronaldo Nazario.

Luuk de Jong then sprang in action seven minutes later to draw the game level before directing home a header from Ever Banega's free-kick in the 33rd minute. In a little over 120 seconds later, Diego Godín met Marcelo Brozovic's in-swinger to tie the game at 2-2.

In effect, the former Atletico Madrid player, who scored in the 2014 Champions League final against Real Madrid, became only the sixth player in history to score in both a European Cup or Champions League final and a UEFA Cup or Europa League final after Steven Gerrard, Hernan Crespo, Dmitri Alenichev, Allan Simonsen and Pedro. He is the first defender to do so among the aforementioned.
