The Furia Roja captain scored twice and broke an impressive record along the way.

On Sunday, Spain took on Ukraine in what was an entertaining UEFA Nations League clash – for La Furia Roja fans, at the very least. The 2010 World Cup champions took on Schevchenko's side and emerged from the weekend encounter with a huge victory, beating their opposition 4-0.

Sergio Ramos got on the score sheet twice, as did Ansu Fati, with Man City new boy Ferran Torres scoring the fourth and final goal six minutes before regular time ended. This was a memorable game for two players, one of which was their captain Ramos.

The iconic center-back grabbed a brace in the weekend victory, scoring his 22nd and then 23rd strike for his national team. This feat saw the 34-year-old make history, first moving level then overtaking Daniel Passarella as the highest-scoring defender in international football.

One interesting statistic is that Ramos needed 70 games to reach this feat, which is impressive given that the Argentine he overtook required 172 caps. The Spaniard quickly took to social media to celebrate not only his achievement, but also the amazing result.

The Spain captain did spread the praise around, lavishing Ansu Fati with applaud as the Barcelona starlet was the other player to grab the spotlight in the victory over Ukraine. His goal in the 32nd minute made him the youngest player in history to score for La Furia Roja. After the final whistle, Ramos spoke highly of the Blaugrana talent.

"I congratulated Ansu, he's a very young player who gives us that freshness and desire which we need. It's great to have a new injection of youth and we're very happy to have players like him," the skipper said about the 17-year-old.
