The English boss will not have a full squad to choose from when the Blues visit Brighton on Monday.

Chelsea fans have been left a bit baffled after a recent update by Frank Lampard, who will not use three of his recent signings in their first game of the 2020-21 season.

Speaking at a press conference, the Blues' boss went on to explain the reasons why Hakim Ziyech, Thiago Silva and Ben Chilwell will not make the trip to face Brighton on Matchday one of the upcoming Premier League season.

The first case discussed by Lampard was that of Ziyech. The former Ajax player will not be playing this weekend after picking up a knock in one of the team's recent friendly games. Even so, there is a glimmer of hope on his speedy recovery.

"Ziyech took an injury against Brighton and he won't be fit, we hope it will only be a couple of weeks," Lampard stated.

As for the two defenders, Lampard admitted that both of them could be available sooner than the former Ajax footballer.

"Chilwell won't be fit. He has improved this week. Silva is in London but not training until the weekend, so I doubt in contention," Lampard added.

Kai Havertz and Timo Werner could make the squad that will face Brighton this weekend, although Lampard refused to reveal if any of them will be part of the starting lineup.
