The French league authorities have punished the PSG superstar and the other four players sent off in Sunday's clash.

Paris Saint-Germain star Neymar Jr has been handed a two-match ban after being sent-off for his involvement in the brawl that ensued during Sunday's clash with Marseille. A ruling by authorities of the French Ligue 1 on Wednesday stated that the 28-year-old Brazilian will not be eligible to play in his side's next two games and risks serving a third ban with a suspended one-match ban included in the punishment.

In a tense encounter in which Florian Thauvin's loan-goal sealed the win for Marseille, Neymar Jr and four other players - Leandro Paredes, Dario Benedetto, Layvin Kurzawa and Jordan Amavi - were all expelled for clashing at the very end of the proceeding. While the former Barcelona star was not directly involved in the initial scuffle, he was captured by VAR striking the back of the head of Marseille's Alvaro Gonzalez.

Having been shone the red card soon after the match referee confirmed the foul play, Neymar stated that his actions were fueled by racist comments directed to him by the defender. Needless to say, the PSG talisman has been suspended for two games and risks getting one more with immediate effect should he be caught in another fracas upon his return.

The verdict by the LFP has revealed that Layvin Kurzawa is banned for Les Parisiens' next six matches while his teammate Leandro Paredes will also miss the next two games. The latter, just like Neymar, was given a one-match suspended sentence. Relatively, Marseille striker Dario Benedetto will serve a one-match ban with Jordan Amavi set to miss out on the next three games for Les Phocéens.

Meanwhile, PSG winger is also under investigation for allegedly spitting at Alvaro Gonzalez. The Marseille defender is also being probed as a result of Neymar's claim that he was racially abused by him.
