Preview: Juventus vs Sampdoria

Although Juventus won their ninth straight Scudetto last season, it still wasn't enough to keep Maurizio Sarri on the bench after the Bianconeri failed to win the Coppa Italia and made an early exit from the Champions League. Despite clinching the league title, Juventus did not finish the season on a high note as they lost three of their last four games, including against Cagliari and Udinese. That being said, their sole win during that lousy run was against Sampdoria, and now with 2006 World Cup winner Andrea Pirlo on the tactician's bench, the Turin giants will look to start their march towards a tenth consecutive Scudetto by earning a win in their first game on home turf.

The hosts come into this game having cruised to a 5-0 win over lower tier side Novara in their last friendly before Serie A started this weekend. With tougher fixtures against Roma and Napoli coming up on matchdays two and three, it goes without saying that the Bianconeri will look to naturally get things off on the right foot. Although Pirlo will be missing playres like Paulo Dybala, Matthijs de Ligt, and Alex Sandro due to injuries, this match will present the perfect  opportunity to field younger faces such as Luca Pellegrini, Arthur Melo and Dejan Kulusevski.

American fans will also be hoping to see USMNT international Weston McKennie involved at some point; the 22-year-old made history by becoming the first American to sign for Juventus on a one-year loan deal from Schalke earlier this summer.

Sampdoria, by contrast are simply looking to stay afloat in the top flight this term. They managed to claw themselves out of the drop zone under Claudio Ranieri's tenure who arrived in October and was able to steer them to 15th place. And now that the former Leicester City and Roma coach is in his first full season at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris, the experienced tactician will be seeking to at least improve on that 15th-placed finish this year.

Team news: Juventus vs Sampdoria

Juventus: Paulo Dybala, Matthijs de Ligt, Federico Bernardeschi and Alex Sandro are all out injured for the hosts, so Pirlo will field players like Luca Pellegrini, Arthur Melo and Dejan Kulusevski. USMNT fans, naturally will be hoping to see Weston McKennie feature during this game, but it looks likely he'll start from the bench.

Sampdoria: No injuries or suspensions for the visiting side.
