The Portuguese playmakers impressive run from 12 yards has finally come to an end.

Manchester United midfielder Bruno Fernandes finally squandered a chance to score with a penalty in Saturday night's Premier League clash with Newcastle United. The Portuguese midfielder saw his perfect record that has existed for more than four years crash after having his attempt saved.

Fernandes seemed to have run out of luck for the earlier part of this encounter as he had what would have been an equaliser for Manchester United ruled for offside in the 20th minute. With the whole team gingered up to undo the deficit incurred as a result of Luke Shaw's own goal, Harry Maguire finally handed the Red Devils a breakthrough by heading home the leveller before half-time.

The biggest opportunity to take the lead for the first time soon presented itself in the second half after Marcus Rashford was brought down in Newcastle's penalty area. Bruno Fernandes subsequently stepped up to do the honors but saw his effort saved by Karl Darlow after ditching his trademark hop and skip run-up in his execution. Watch:

In retrospect, the miss was Fernandes' first in a league match in over four years and his first in all competitions in over two. The last goalkeeper to have saved the Portuguese midfielder's attempt from 12 yards was SC Pinheiro de Loures goalkeeper Miguel Soares during Sporting's 2-1 win in the Taca de Portugal back in October 2018.

Meanwhile, Fernandes' moment of vindication did not elude him and he eventually earned the Man of the Match gong with a series of important plays. Firstly, he got Manchester United's second goal of the night and topped it up by assisting Marcus Rashford for the last goal of the game after Aaron Wan-Bissaka had made it 3-1 with his first goal for the club.
