After a disappointing result in their opening Champions League match, Dortmund will look to re-group and bounce back as they welcome struggling Schalke for the Revierderby on Saturday, October 24.

Preview: BVB vs Schalke

Fans will be treated to the latest installment of the Revierderby when familiar foes Borussia Dortmund and Schalke lock horns at Signal Iduna Park this Saturday. Die Schwarzgelben will be hoping to take advantage of their opponent's lousy form and make it four wins in their last five fixtures in order to keep up the pressure on Bayern and RB Leipzig who sit in second and first respectively.

Lucien Favre's men were viewed as the slight favorites to come out on top in their Champions League clash with Lazio due to the Italians' disappointing form recently, but were given a rude shock as Simone Inzaghi guided his team to a 3-1 win in what was his first ever appearance in the Champions League as a manager. Notably, former Dortmund striker Ciro Immobile, who failed to have much of an impact during his tenure at Signal Idnua Park opened the scoring for Lazio within the first ten minutes.

Regardless of the disappointment, Dortmund have a golden opportunity to keep up the pressure on Bayern and RB Leipzig when die Königsblauen. If Schalke's fans thought the team's nightmare from last season had ended, unfortunately it's still ongoing. Coach David Wagner was sacked, with Manuel Baum brought in to turn things around, but unfortunately, their downward spiral still continues. The visitors arrive at Signal Iduna Park having failed to win their last 20 games - a run extending all the way back to January of this year.

In fact, the last time die Königsblauen actually picked up three points from a league game was on January 17th when they beat Gladbach 2-0. That was then followed by a heavy 5-0 drubbing by Bayern Munich, and it's been all downhill since. Although then-coach Wagner managed to steer his side to avoid relegation and finish in 12th place, they kicked off this season by suffering an embarrassing 8-0 loss to die Roten on matchday one.

Schalke aren't dead last - they're current propped up by floundering Mainz - but they only earned their first point of the season recently, with Goncalo Paciencia coming off the bench to snatch a much-needed draw against Union Berlin last round. That ended a seven game losing streak for die Königsblauen, but unless if something shocking happens at Signal Iduna Park, it appears that the visitors may be waiting just a bit longer for that first win of the 2020/2021 season.
