U.S. Women’s National Team’s Alex Morgan stepped on the field during a competitive game for the first time in over a year, while Christen Press and Tobin Heath helped Manchester United take down the mighty Arsenal.

The FA Women’s Super League table went through a lot of change during the weekend. Manchester United became league-leaders after taking down Arsenal. Moreover, Chelsea overtook Everton after smashing the Toffees 4-0. Manchester City thrashed Bristol City, edging closer to the top three. Aston Villa and West Ham won their first game of the season and Tottenham remains winless.

Manchester City’s Rose Lavelle and Sam Mewis, Manchester United’s Christen Press and Tobin Heath, and Tottenham’s Alex Morgan were all involved in the drama and this is how it went down.

Alex Morgan – Tottenham Hotspur

Morgan played her first 20 minutes of competitive play since Aug. 21, 2019. She returned after giving birth to her daughter Charlie to play with Tottenham and the forward has been eager to get on the pitch since.

On Saturday, Morgan came in as a substitute in the 70th minute after a 444-day hiatus during Tottenham's league game against Reading on Saturday. The 20 minutes she played in was filled with thrilling back-and-forth action as both sides looked to claim all three points. The 31-year-old expressed that she was happy to be back but that there is more to work on personally and as a team.

Tottenham is in the middle of an early-season recession. The Spurs have not been able to match-up with top-three sides like Manchester United has, losing four games in a row against Everton, Manchester City, Arsenal, and the Red Devils. Their other two results were draws, including last weekend’s with Reading.

Tottenham needs to win their next three games since they play Bristol City, Brighton & Hove Albion and Aston Villa. Morgan will be happy to use those games to prepare herself for the real tests.

Tobin Heath & Christen Press – Manchester United

When Casey Stoney and her players learned that Chelsea defeated Everton earlier in the day, they knew exactly what that meant; a chance at claiming the first position in the table.

Stoney chose to start both of her American aces with Heath on the left-wing and Press leading the team’s front line as the lone striker. And per usual, they were fun to watch and a constant threat to Arsenal’s defense.

The two USWNT stars helped Manchester United to a 1-0 win that saw them reach first place for the first time in their short history.

Sam Mewis & Rose Lavelle – Manchester City

Manchester City defeated Bristol 8-1 on Saturday, digging the Robins deeper into the bottom of the table. Mewis started and played 57 minutes until Jill Scott came in for her. On the other hand, Lavelle entered in the 67th minute going in for Georgia Stanway in the left-wing. Many USWNT fans disagree with the decision to play her on the wing.

Nonetheless, Mewis and Lavelle were not involved in the scoring despite the amount of goals scored. Man City are back to the top half of the table in fifth place behind Man Utd, Arsenal, Chelsea and Everton. The Citizens will look forward to Saturday, Nov. 14, when they face Manchester United at Leigh Sports Village Stadium, and for a second time in FA WSL Cup action on Nov. 19.
