The Uruguayan will be denied a reunion with his former teammates following his latest plight.

Atletico Madrid have been dealt a massive blow with Luis Suarez set to be ruled out of Saturday's La Liga clash with Barcelona. According to a statement released by the Uruguayan Football Federation on Monday, the 33-year-old striker has tested for coronavirus and is currently in isolation.

Suarez's team-mate Rodrigo Munoz, as well as backroom staff member Matias Fara, also had their test results returning positive. All the three were involved when Uruguay defeated Colombia by three goals to nil on Friday. Per the statement issued by the Uruguayan FA, they are all responding to treatment and observing the isolation guidelines.

The news comes at the worst possible time for La Celesti who are gearing up for a World Cup qualifier against Brazil on Tuesday. The side is already shorthanded, with the likes of Sebastian Coate, Matias Vina,Federico Valverde, and Maxi Gomez all ruled out for the crunchy tie.

Relatively, Suarez's plight comes as a blow for Diego Simeone and Atletico Madrid ahead of the weekend's game with Barcelona. The side is already facing an injury crisis with both Héctor Herrera and Stefan Savić leaving their respective international squads with muscle issues. Similarly, goalkeeper Jan Oblak availability remains uncertain after he missed Slovenia's Nations League game with Kosovo.

For Suarez, his absence could prove crucial to the final outcome of the game with his former club. The ex-Los Blaugrana's star's arrival in Madrid has so far proved to be beneficial as he has registered five goals in six league outings.

With his help, Los Colchoneros' charge as potential title contenders is gaining momentum. Simeone's men currently sit third on the league log with just three points separating them and leaders Real Sociedad.
