The qualifiers have just started and La Vinotinto cannot afford to drop more points. Can Chile take advantage of their desperation to help their cause with a win?

The 2022 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers are well underway in South America, and even if there are 15 games left for each team, there are some of those that will have to step things up now before it is too late. Such is the case for Venezuela, a team that will be looking to win their first points of the qualifiers when they host Chile.

José Peseiro's men have not been able to win a single point, and waiting for the final matchdays to start adding points to their tally is not an option. Hence, Venezuela's second home game will be key, but Chile may be quite the nut to crack for this struggling Venezuelan side.

Added to their poor start, La Vinotinto will have to deal with three absences for this games. Captain Tomás Rincón will not be able to play after picking up a third yellow card, which resulted in a one-game ban for Torino's midfielder. Roberto Rosales and Rolf Feltscher will also give Peseiro a headache, since their absence will force their boss to reconfigure his defense.

Chile will be on the other side of the pitch showing how they have progressed under boss Reinaldo Rueda. Their first game may have ended in defeat (against Uruguay, 2-1), but getting four out of six points against Colombia (2-2) and Perú (2-0) have given fans and experts something to be proud of. A win against Venezuela would propel La Roja away from the sixth spot they hold right now.

Good news are coming from the Chilean camp, as coach Rueda will have a full squad to choose from for the team's last game in 2020.
