Benevento will be have their sight set on beating Juventus for the first time in history when they receive them to the Municipal Stadium Ciro Vigorito on Saturday.

Match preview

After successfully progressing to the last 16 stage of the UEFA Champions League in midweek, Juventus will now turn their attention to extending their unbeaten run in Serie A when they travel to Benevento on Saturday. The Bianconeri played their hearts out and left it to the death, snatching a narrow 2-1 win over Ferencvaros to progress to the knockout stage of the European competition. While the journey has been far from smooth since Andre Pirlo replaced Maurizio Sarri as the new head coach, the Turin outfit have often shown resilience and enough character to knick wins under difficult circumstances.

Juventus' struggles this season persists and, against Benevento, they will hope to finally steer their Scudetto defense on course. The Allianz Stadium outfit currently share the record of not tasting defeat in the league with leaders AC Milan and second-placed Sassuolo. However, they are four points off the total tally of the Rossoneri, winning four and drawing the remaining four of the eight games played so far. There still remains room for improvement with the club winning just six of their last 10 matches across all competitions - losing just one and drawing the remaining three.

Benevento, on the other hand, will hope that there will be enough room for them to also make a concrete claim to survive the drop this season when they take on the reigning champions. It has so far been a season to forget for Gli Stregoni who have managed just nine points from a possible 21. Momentarily, they sit 14th on the league log after taking their winning count to three via a 1-0 scoreline in the meeting with Fiorentina last weekend.

Against Juventus, a different test presents itself and history does not favor Benevento's chances. In all the two top-flight meetings with the Old Lady, they have picked up defeats and having pulled off a shock win in their most recent league outing, there is no better time to finally pen a new chapter in the history books.

Team news

Bryan Dabo has been ruled out of Saturday's encounter with Juventu after testing positive for COVID-19. Relatively, Gaetano Letizia and Massimo Volta and Alessandrio Tuia will be amiss as they continue their recuperation from injuries. Both Iago Falque and Daam Foulon are a doubt for the clash although Gianluca Caprari's return after serving a suspension should boost the morale in camp.

For Juventus, Leonardo Bonucci and Merih Demiral are all unavailable with injuries. Giorgio Chiellini could face a late fitness test to compete for a place in the starting lineup although Andre Pirlo will most likely not risk him in the upcoming match-up.

Predicted starting XI:

  • Benevento possible starting lineup: Montipo; Letizia, Glik, Caldirola, Maggio; Ionita, Schiattarella, Hetemaj; Insigne, Caprari; Lapadula.

  • Juventus possible starting lineup: Szczęsny; Cuadrado, De Ligt, Danilo, Sandro; Bentancur, Arthur, Rabiot; Kulusevski; Morata, Ronaldo.
