Los Blaugrana will look to get their league title charge back on track when they face Elche at Camp Nou on Wednesday.

Match preview

Barcelona will aim to return to winning ways when they welcome Elche to Camp Nou for Tuesday night's La Liga encounter. The Catalans have enjoyed a bit of ill-fortune in recent weeks and will approach the midweek encounter at the back of a two-game winless run in all competitions.

Having been put to the sword by Kylian Mbappe's Paris Saint-Germain in the first leg of the Champions League Round 16 tie, Ronald Koeman's side was denied a win in the weekend's La Liga outing, drawing 1-1 with Cadiz. The outcome was a setback for Los Blaugrana considering that they could have significantly closed down the gap between them and leaders Atletico Madrid who lost in their respective clash with Levante. So far, eight points separates Simeone's side and the Catalans after 23 matches.

Barca's draw with Cadiz on Sunday ended a seven-game winning streak in La Liga although their unbeaten run was extended to 13. The last time the Catalans lost a game in the league was against El Submarino Amarillo in December 2020. At the moment, it looks unlikely that they will drop points in their upcoming league game considering the fact they have fallen short in recent times.

For Elche, the objective will be to build on the weekend's win over Eibar when they travel to Camp Nou on Wednesday. Escriba Segura's men successfully ended a 17-game winless run in the league by running away with a 1-0 victory, having last managed a league win in October 2020. Since defeating Valencia 2-1 in the Round 7 clash, the Franjiverdes have gone ahead to pick up eight losses and seven draws.

They approach the meeting with Barcelona with just two wins in 10 away matches this season. The last time Escriba Segur's men won an away game in the league was in October last year against Deportivo Alaves. The fact that they have not beaten Barca since the 1974-75 campaign, also puts them at a huge disadvantage ahead of the crucial encounter. Should Elche be able to defy the odds and get a win, they will be lifted out of the relegation zone into 17th-place.

Team news

Barcelona will not have Ansu Fati, Philippe Coutinho, Ronald Araujo and Sergi Roberto for Wednesday's match as they are yet to fully recover from their respective injuries. Relatively, Elche will make do without the services of Diego Gonzalez, Fidel and Jony Alamo. Ivan Marcone is also suspended for the visitors.

Predicted starting XI

Barcelona: Ter Stegen; Mingueza, Pique, Umtiti, Firpo; Pjanic, De Jong, Pedri; Trincao, Messi, Griezmann

Elche: Badia; Barragan, Verdu, Calvo, Mojica; Rigoni, Mfulu, Guti, Milla; Carillo, Boye.
