The Blues have reportedly set their sight on securing the service of their former star should their pursuit of the Dortmund star fail.

Chelsea have reportedly added Inter Milan star and former academy graduate Romelu Lukaku to their list of attacking targets this summer. The Blues are said to be considering the idea of making a move for their former prodigy should their pursuit of Borussia Dortmund's Erling Haaland fail to materialize.

The 20-year-old striker has been tipped as the No.1 attacking target for Chelsea who have lacked the service an out-and-out goal poacher in their ranks this season. The Norwegian is still on a steady rise and has already contributed 33 goals in 31 appearances for Borussia Dortmund in all competitions this season. In the Bundesliga, he has found the back of the net 21 times in 22 appearances. The likes of Manchester United and Real Madrid are rumored to be targeting a move for him this summer alongside Thomas Tuchel's side.

According to the Telegraph, should the German manager's team fail to secure the service of Haaland, they will set their sights on re-signing Romelu Lukaku. The 27-year-old Belgian has evolved into one of the finest strikers in Europe since leaving the Stamford Bridge outfit in 2015, and is currently enjoying a fruitful spell at Inter Milan. He has led the Nerazurri's charge to secure their first Scudetto since 2010, ranking at their goal contribution leaderboard with 27 goals and assists in 26 appearances.

Despite struggling to fit in at Manchester United, Chelsea are supposedly convinced that their former academy starlet can lead the lines for them with the performances of Timo Werner and Olivier Giroud proving to be unsatisfactory. The attacker, who was signed for $107.6 million by Inter in 2019 could be an inexpensive alternative for the Blues should they decide against meeting Dortmund's $212 million valuation for Erling Haaland.
