The English pair fired the Blues into the driving seat, with their manager landing an impressive feat as a result of Wednesday night's crucial win.

Thomas Tuchel, Mason Mount and Ben Chilwell secured a bit of Champions League history after contributing to Chelsea's win over FC Porto on Wednesday night's. The latter pair got on the score sheet to fire the Blues to a vital 2-0 away victory ahead of the second leg quarter-final clash scheduled for next week Tuesday.

Just as anticipated it, was a cagey affair with both defenses doing well to keep the attackers at bay. However, and rather against the run of play, it was Chelsea who had the breakthrough in the 32nd minute with Mason Mount scoring a stunner - his first in the competition - after making beautiful turn. In essence, the academy graduate became the Blues' youngest-ever goalscorer in a UEFA Champions League knockout match at the age of 22 years and 87 days.

A 1-0 win would have been a fair reflection of the last eight encounter considering the fact that FC Porto failed to utilize any of the opportunities that came their way. However, Ben Chilwell ensured that Chelsea had a buffer to rely on ahead of the second leg by capitalizing on a defensive mistake by the hosts to score his side's second in the 85th minute.

With the goal, the former Leicester City left-back and his compatriot Mason Mount became the first Englishmen to score in the same Champions League game for the London club since 2012. The Blues former manager Frank Lampard and then skipper John Terry were the last players to manage the feat in a win over Napoli eight years ago.

For Thomas Tuchel, the night's victory at Porto's make-shift home of Slavko Vincic in Slovenia made him just the second Chelsea manager to win his first three games in the knockout stages of the UEFA Champions League. The last manager to do this was Roberto Di Matteo in 2011-12. The Blues eventually went on to lift the title at the end of the campaign by beating Bayern Munich on penalties in the final.
