Despite seeing some improvements since the arrival of Thomas Tuchel, one area that apparently has Chelsea's leadership still concerned is their strike force.
Although Olivier Giroud has proven to be a solid presence up front, playing a vital role especially in Chelsea's progression in this season's Champions League, the veteran striker will be out of contract at the end of the season and reports, especially from Italy, where several teams have been really keen on signing him for a while, have claimed that the 34-year-old will not be renewing his contract.
Meanwhile, English youngster Tammy Abraham, who enjoyed the trust of Frank Lampard and did quite well when the Chelsea legend was in charge, hasn't really found his footing since Tuchel arrived. The former PSG tactician continues to prefer Timo Werner, despite the German international continuing to misfire in front of goal both for club and country. This leads many to wonder if Abraham will even bother to remain at Stamford Bridge or continue to seek greener pastures elsewhere, especially with Tuchel continuing to back Werner at his expense.
Thus, with Giroud and Abraham potentially on their way out and Werner failing to live up to his hefty price tag, Chelsea will need to look elsewhere for options. There have been reports linking the Blues with a reunion with none other than former striker Romelu Lukaku, but despite Inter having some financial issues due to their Chinese owners' business woes, the big Belgian won't come cheap. Furthermore, he's clearly settled at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza under Antonio Conte's tenure, and the Nerazzurri are looking good to not just qualify for the Champions League but win their first Scudetto since 2010.
That's where, at least, according to two Italian publications, another Italy-based striker could be the solution to Chelsea's attacking woes.
Torino's Andrea Belotti, who is presently valued by the Granata at an eyebrow-raising €100 million, has been a solid presence for the struggling side for the past few seasons. The 27-year-old is set to be a free agent next year, and considering that his team are now battling relegation as opposed to competing for a European berth, this will force them to drop their asking price.
Indeed, according to the Corriere dello Sport, Torino could be forced to slash their asking price by as much as 75 per cent, or to just €25 million, which would naturally be a lot more palatable to suitors than €100 million.
As per the Torino Granata, Chelsea reportedly have made an "inquiry" about Belotti's availabilty as they have already started planning as to how to revamp their squad for the upcomign 2021/2022 season.
Torino presently sit in 17th spot in Serie A, with 24 points from 28 games played thus far. The Granata recently managed to hold city rivals Juventus to a 2-2 draw in last weekend's Derby della Mole, but are just two points away from the drop zone, and have won just four times all season.
Belotti, for his part, has scored 11 times for his struggling team, while chipping in with five assists, meaning that he's been directly involved in 16 of Torino's 52 goals so far this term.
