Tottenham Hotspur will look to press on with their top four charge with another win when they welcome Manchester United on Sunday.

Preview

Tottenham Hotspur will have their sight set on a win when they host Manchester United at the Tottenham Stadium in a crucial Premier League encounter on Sunday. With a place in the top four within their reach, Spurs will be poised to make a genuine claim as every result counts at this point. Jose Mourinho's men currently sixth in the table - three points behind West Ham United who occupy fourth position with eight matches left of the season to play.

The hosts enter the upcoming test on the back of the disapppointing 2-2 draw with Newcastle. Having been in the driving seat for the most part of the proceeding, the North London outfit were forced to share spoils, conceeding a late Joe Willock equalizer after Joelinton had scored the visitors opener. Prior to that, Spurs had bounced back from their Europa League elimination with a 2-0 victory over Aston Villa.

Against Manchester United, Spurs will hope to find some level of consistency as they have picked up defeats in eight of their last 20 appearances in all competitions while drawing two. They are unbeaten in their last two games but lost the two games that preceeded it. Nevertheless, they will fancy their chances of securing victory as they will draw inspiration from their 6-1 win over 10-man United side Red this season.

For Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's charges, the upcoming clash has come at an opportune time considering the level of inconsistency Tottenham Hotspur have displayed in recent weeks. While the form of the Reds in the past six games mirrors that of the opponent they face, they are well positioned to get a revenge over Mourinho's men. The Old Trafford club approaches the game with a 2-0 win over Granada in the Europa League quarter-final first leg clash on Thursday. Before that, they successfully completed a 2-1 comeback win over Brighton and Hove Albion in the premiership.

As it has been the case for the most part of this season, Manchester United are odds on favourites to grab another win on the road. The 20-time English champions rank behind only Manchester City and Leicester as the side with the best away record this season. They have have won nine of their 15 league fixtures on their travels and have drawn six. No team has been able to defeat Solskjaer's men in their home grounds this season.

This piece of statstic, coupled with the fact the Reds still have a shot at clinching the Premier League title, should spur them on to get the better of Jose Mourinho and his men.

Team news

Tottenham Hotspur have just two players absent, with full-back duo Ben Davies and Matt Doherty set to miss out with injuries. Following their Europa League elimination, the London side should be well rested to take on Manchester United who will also come into the game with a number of their key players absent with injuries.

Anthony Martial, Phil Jones and Eric Bailly are ruled out of the clash with respective injuries. Marcus Rashford's involvement is in doubt once more as the player continues to nurse an ankle injury. Paul Pogba and Luke Shaw should gain starting berths despite pick up knocks in the mid-week's win over Granada.

Predicted starting XI

  • Tottenham Hotspur: Lloris; Aurier, Sanchez, Rodon, Reguilon; Hojbjerg, Ndombele; Son, Lo Celso, Lucas; Kane

  • Manchester United: Henderson; Wan-Bissaka, Lindelof, Maguire, Shaw; McTominay, Fred; Greenwood, Fernandes, Pogba; Rashford.
