The Spaniard secured all three points for Manchester United after his late save denied Mark Noble from snatching a draw for the Hammers.

Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer singled out goalkeeper David de Gea for praise after his late penalty save safeguarded the Red Devils' win at the London Stadium on Sunday. The 30-year-old shot-stopper produced a remarkable save in the 95th minute to deny Mark Noble his first goal of the season and the opportunity to steal a point for the host.

The drama in afternoon's encounter began very early in the proceeding, with the Hammers taking the lead through Said Benrahma's shot which deflected off Raphael Varane past De Gea in goal in the 30th minute. Five minutes later Cristiano Ronaldo continued his fine scoring run by finding the back of the net for the Red Devils in his third successive game since his return.

The Portuguese superstar will keep pushing for a winner but was denied on multiple occasions by the brilliance of West Ham shot-stopper Lukas Fabianski. Had Manchester United not grabbed the win through substitute Jesse Lingard's 89th minute strike, they would have most likely felt a bit hard done as the former Juventus star had three penalty appeals being waved off by Referee Martin Atkinson.

Inside the fifth minute of additional time, West Ham were handed a spot-kick after Jarrod Bowen saw his cross hitting the arm of Luke Shaw. Skipper Mark Noble was then substituted on to specifically take the spot-kick but was denied by De Gea who had dived the right way. The Spanish shot-stopper who had come under immense criticisms for his non-performances in recent seasons and even conceded the No.1 spot to teammate Dean Henderson, has largely impressed this season although he is yet to keep a clean sheet.

"We are very happy with the win and we deserved the win," Solskjaer told Sky Sports after the game.

"We played some very good football, created good chances, we pressed them into making loads of mistakes. Luckily, David [de Gea] saves that penalty at the end."

"I believe in David [de Gea] and I've seen him [make a penalty save]. He saved against Crystal Palace last season, and his foot was a little inch off the line.

"He's [de Gea] came back focused, really determined, with a desire to show who he is. It's his 11th season and we've never stopped believing in him, and it's important that he also knows that."

"I've seen Mark Noble score so many penalties, you did feel down and out and expected to come home with one point but luckily David [de Gea] has continued his good form," Solskjaer added.

"We deserved to win. I think we created some big chances, we had pressure on them, should have had a few penalties, great response when they scored, good attitude, very good away performance in a difficult cauldron; the stadium is hard here!"

With the win, Manchester United momentarily occupied second place with 13 points from a possible 15 before Chelsea climbed to the top and demoted them to third with their win over Tottenham Hotspur.
