Gerrard's appointment at Aston Villa meant that Klopp was bound to be asked about his Anfield future.

The Premier League is finally back in action, with the English top-flight returning this weekend after pausing for the recent international break. This means managers sat in front of the press for the first time since the beginning of November, with Jurgen Klopp being one of them.

The German was asked an array of questions by reporters, many related to their upcoming showdown with high-flying Arsenal on Saturday. However, one of the most interesting points of discussion was Steven Gerrard's return to the Premier League, which occurred during the international break.

The Reds icon, who had been managing Rangers, left Scotland to succeed Dean Smith as the new Aston Villa boss, exciting several Liverpool fans along the way. The reason is obvious: given his legendary status at the club, many wish to see the iconic midfielder return to Anfield in the near future as a manger.

In fact, some wish to see the Englishman succeed Jurgen Klopp whenever the German tactician brings an end to his time in Merseyside, with the Aston Villa job being the best next step in that pathway. As a result, Klopp was asked about his future given that his current contract will end in 2024.

Unfortunately, the former Dortmund boss was not too pleased with this question. The 54-year-old echoed what Gerrard had to say when asked about the Liverpool job during his first Aston Villa press conference: his focus is simply on the current season and the task at hand.

"Wow!" was Klopp's reaction to the question, as per Goal.

"I thought Stevie said some nice things, smart things, made sure it was about Villa and Gerrard.

"I don't have to think about [my future], thank God. We are in the middle of the season. No other managers gets asked so often about two or three years away."

The Anfield boss then added: "It's over when it's over, but it's far away from being over, so let's focus on that."

While questions regarding Klopp's future will remain for quite some time, or possibly hit a new high should Gerrard succeed at Aston Villa, the Liverpool fans and higher-ups are in no rush to see their current boss leave the club. Since arriving back in 2015, Jurgen has been nothing but a hit, guiding the club to a UEFA Champions League title and their very first Premier League win, all while establishing himself as one of the best managers in world football.

His current side are one of the favorites for this season's English top-flight crown as well. However, poor back-to-back results against Brighton and West Ham have seen Salah and Co. drop four points behind league leaders Chelsea. The club must return to winning ways but will face a tricky test from Mikel Arteta's in-form side, with the fifth-placed Gunners boasting an impressive 10-game unbeaten run across all competitions.
