The Red Devils managed to run away with a point after the Italian midfielder made a mess of a clearance to gift them a goal.

Manchester United's pragmatic game strategy earned them a 1-1 draw at Stamford Bridge, leaving Premier League leaders Chelsea unhappy. The Red Devils almost run away with the maximum three points in a game which saw Cristiano Ronaldo dropped to the bench but for a late penalty that went in favor of the hosts.

The narrative may have turned out differently if Chelsea had been a little more clinical, but United's defence coming up big. Inside the first four minutes, David de Gea saved a Callum Hudson-Odoi effort, and later in the half, the goalkeeper tipped Antonio Rudiger's long-range shot onto the crossbar. His side will subsequently make the Blues pay for their inefficiency, although 'Lady Luck' had a hand in the situation. Manchester United took the lead moments after the second half began, with Jadon Sancho taking advantage of Jorginho's error to run through unopposed on goal and finish for his first Premier League goal.

Nevertheless, the Italian midfielder was presented with a glorious opportunity to make amends for his error after Aaron Wan-Bissaka fouled Thiago Silva in United's 18-yard box to give away a penalty. The chance was subsequently converted by the current UEFA Best Player of the Year, sending De Gea the wrong way by slotting the ball to the right.

In hindsight, the introduction of Cristiano Ronaldo did not yield any tangible outcome as Chelsea continued to search for the game's winner. Shortly after Fred squandered a goalscoring opportunity as a result of a Eduardo Mendy's misplaced pass, Antonio Rudiger denied his side a happy ending by blazing a shot over the bar in the 97th minute while unmarked at the far post. With the result, Manchester United are now eight Premier League games without defeat against Chelsea - their best unbeaten run in this League fixture since 10 games from 1938 to 1950.

Chelsea enter the mid-week's round of matches still sitting atop the Premier League table with Manchester City now just a point behind following their 2-1 win over West Ham on Sunday afternoon.
