Over Primera División

De Chileense Primera División vormt de top van het professionele voetbal in Chili. Opgericht in 1933, wordt de competitie momenteel georganiseerd door de Nationale Professionele Voetbalassociatie van Chili (ANFP). De competitie staat ook bekend als het Betsson Kampioenschap, naar aanleiding van een sponsorovereenkomst die in 2023 is getekend.
Colo-Colo is het meest succesvolle team in de Chileense Primera División, met meer gewonnen titels dan enig ander team. Het is tevens het enige team dat nooit is gedegradeerd in de geschiedenis van de competitie. Andere teams die ook succes hebben geboekt met meerdere titels in de Chileense Primera División zijn Universidad de Chile, Universidad Católica en Cobreloa.
De competitie heeft door de jaren heen talrijke veranderingen ondergaan, maar werkt momenteel volgens een systeem van alle wedstrijden (waarbij elk team elkaar eenmaal ontmoet, zowel thuis als uit). De Chileense Primera División hanteert ook een degradatie- en promotiesysteem, waarbij de twee beste teams van de Primera B (tweede niveau) promoveren naar de Primera División, terwijl de twee slechtst presterende teams van de Primera División worden verplaatst naar de Primera B.
Net zoals andere teams in Zuid-Amerika, hebben teams die deelnemen aan de Chileense Primera División de mogelijkheid om te strijden in de Copa Libertadores of de Copa Sudamericana, afhankelijk van hun eindpositie in het competitieklassement.
TNT Sports heeft momenteel de tv-uitzendrechten van de Chileense Primera División in handen, na het ondertekenen van een meerjarige overeenkomst met de ANFP in 2021 om de exclusieve omroep van de competitie te worden. CNN Chile beschikt ook over niet-exclusieve uitzendrechten om geselecteerde wedstrijden uit te zenden. In de Verenigde Staten biedt Bein Sports dekking van de Chileense Primera División, terwijl het toernooi ook live gestreamd kan worden via Bein Sports Connect en op FUBOTV, vanwege het feit dat het de Bein-sportprogrammering draagt.
