About
TSN2 History, Coverage, Features
The Sports Network is an English-language sports channel broadcast in Canada, owned by CTV Specialty Television, a joint-venture between Bell Media and ESPN. The network launched its first channel on September 1, 1984 and has established itself as one of the top options for sports fans in Canada. It is commonly referred to by its acronym, TSN.
TSN was allowed by the Canadian Radio-Television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) to operate multiple feeds with a limited number of alternative shows, which led to the creation of TSN 2. The channel’s first broadcast came on August 29, 2008 and during its first years, it was used as an overflow channel when TSN 1 had one or more live events to cover. TSN 2 is available on both HD and SD since its launch.
TSN 2 has focused its programming on NBA games featuring the Toronto Raptors, NASCAR racing, boxing, tennis, baseball and lacrosse events, to name a few. The rest of TSN 2’s content includes some shows produced by ESPN, the minority partner for the network. Added to that, TSN 2 has also contributed to the network’s broadcasts of FIFA events, such as the 2018 World Cup.
