Magyar Szuperkupa History, Format, Organization, Media Coverage
Magyar Szuperkupa, the Hungarian Super Cup, is a football match between the Nemzeti Bajnokság I (Hungarian top-flight) champions and the Magyar Kupa (Hungarian Cup) winners. It is the equivalent of the Community Shield in England and the Supercopa de Espana in Spain.
It was founded in 1992 and is organized by the Hungarian Football Federation. It is held annually but on four occasions between its inception and 2016, the Hungarian Super Cup was not contested after the league and cup were won by the same club — Ferencváros in 1995, 2004, and 2016; and MTK Budapest in 1997. Additionally, this tournament was not held due to scheduling issues and violence on five occasions between 1996 and 2001.
