PSG will hope to add to their impressive run in Coupe de France when they welcome Angers for Wednesday's quarter-final clash.

Preview

Paris Saint-Germain will aim to get close to defending their Coupe de France title when they receive Angers at the Parc des Princes for Wednesday's quarter-final encounter. Les Parisians are well-positioned to win the treble this season, as they currently sit a point behind Ligue 1 leaders Lille and are set for a semi-final clash with Manchester City in the UEFA Champions League.

They approach the upcoming domestic cup game on the back of a dramatic 3-2 win over St Etienne over the weekend. It took until the 77th minute for the deadlock to be broken in the game with Denis Bouanga firing the host ahead. Shortly after, Kylian Mbappe hit two goals in succession to tilt the advantage to his side before Romain Hamouma's almost ruined the party with an equalizer.

With virtually the last kick of the game, Mauro Icardi secured the win for the defending champions with a brilliant header after coming on from the bench. In the Coupe de France, PSG are on a nine-game winning run since losing the 2019 final to Rennes.

In the build-up to this meeting with Angers, they comfortably cruised past Lille in the last 16 stage after getting past Brest and Caen in the preliminaries. This season, they have not conceded a single goal in the campaign.

For Angers, the magnitude of the task ahead cannot be understated, especially because they approach the clash after a disappointing outing this weekend. The Black and Whites were subjected to a 3-0 defeat at home to Rennes, making it back to back defeats via the same scoreline.

Prior to that, they were on a three-game unbeaten run. In the Coupe de France, Stéphane Moulin's side has punched above their weight, defeating Club Franciscan in the last 32 stage and getting the better of CS Sedan via a 1-0 scoreline in the Round of 16.

As to whether they can replicate the same form against PSG remains a different tale, especially considering that they are appearing in the quarterfinals for the first time since the 2016-17 edition where they lost to the former. The fact that Angers have lost back to back against the Parc des Princes outfit in the league season does not open up the possibility for an upset to ensure. The latter goes into the game on a 24-game unbeaten run against the Black and Whites since losing 3-1 in the 1974-95 Ligue 1 campaign.

Team news

PSG will welcome back Neymar into the fold after the Brazilian served a two-game ban. Keylor Navas, Alexandre Letellier, Abdou Diallo, Rafinha, Marco Verratti and Marquinhos are all ruled out of action through injury.

Relatively, Angers have a long injury list with Angelo Fulgini, Vincent Manceau, Sofiane Boufal and Lassana Coulibaly all absent. Farid El Melali and Mathias Pereira Lage are set to miss the encounter after contracting Covid-19. Meanwhile, Souleyman Doumbia and Stephane Bahoken are expected to be available this time around.

Predicted starting XI

  • Paris Saint-Germain: Rico; Dagba, Kehrer, Kimpembe, Kurzawa; Gueye, Paredes; Di Maria, Neymar, Draxler; Icardi

  • Angers; Bamba, Thomas, Pavlovic, Traore, Capelle; Amadou, Mangani, Bobichon; Thioub, Bahoken.
