A howler by the Gunners' shot-stopper condemned the club to their ninth home defeat of the season.

In the most bizarre turn of events in Friday night's Premier League encounter with Everton, Arsenal goalkeeper Bernd Leno scored an own-goal to gift the visitors their first-ever away win over the Guuners in 25 years. The German goalkeeper failed to gather a low cross from Richarlison and ended up with the ball in his own net, gifting the Toffees' all the three points in the process.

In an event which preceded the classic match-up, Arsenal fans converged outside of the Emirates, to protest against club owner Stan Kroenke following his attempt to sign the club for the the European Super League. While the players barely felt the agitation, it was Everton who had the brightest of starts and came close to scoring through Richarlison and Gylfi Sigurdsson. 

However, Arsenal had the biggest chance, or so they thought, after Dani Ceballos was fouled in the Everton penalty area eight minutes after play resumed for the second half. A VAR review subsequently ruled out the referee's call with Nicolas Pepe having been deemed offside in the build-up to the incident.

With less than a quarter of an hour remaining, Bernd Leno deflected Richarlison's harmless cross into the net to deny his side a point at Emirates as Everton secured back-to-back wins over Arsenal this season. With the game's outcome, the Gunners took their home defeats in this league campaign to nine - a feat they had not managed in the competition since 1930.

Mikel Arteta's men now sit in ninth position on 46 points. On the contrary, Eveton are slowly pushing for a place in Europe and have accumulated 52 points in 32 appearances this season. Carlo Ancelotti's men now sit in eight, a point adrift both Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur.
