Kansas City vs. OL Reign on Monday, May 3 at 8 p.m. ET

NWSL newbies Kansas City will look for its first win of the tournament on Monday night. The side sits fifth in the Western Division with one point after three games. A win against OL Reign would see them finish in third place.

Forward Amy Rodriguez has been Kansas City’s most important player during the competition with two goals against Portland and Chicago. The captain will look to lead her team to its first-ever NWSL win on Monday. Players like midfielder Chloe Logarzo and forward Tziarra King will help Rodriguez achieve that goal.

Despite not qualifying for the Challenge Cup Final, Kansas City head coach Huw Williams believes that the games have helped the team prepare for the upcoming 2021 NWSL regular season.

“I’d be lying if I said we weren’t trying to win the Challenge Cup,” said Williams. “We didn’t advance, but playing the level of opposition we have will certainly help prepare us for the regular season.”

On the other hand, OL Reign sits third in the Western Division table with four points and a record of 1-1-1. The Reign is coming off a 3-2 win against the Chicago Red Stars at Cheney Stadium last Tuesday, April 27. The game featured experienced defenders Lauren Barnes and Steph Cox, midfielder Jess Fishlock and forward Megan Rapinoe – their first game due to international duty.

Rapinoe is marked as “OUT” for Monday’s game alongside Sam Hiatt, Kelcie Hedge and Ally Watt. The USWNT player is dealing with a back injury, and she is set to make her return for the regular season.

Forward Leah Pruitt earned the Budweiser Player of the Match award against Chicago. The 23-year-old scored the Reign’s second goal against Chicago. Pruitt's work rate has made her a standout in the tournament. She will play for a fourth consecutive time on Monday to help her team to a second win in a row.

A win against Kansas City would see OL Reign finish second, finishing above NWSL Challenge Cup reigning champions Houston.
