Just in time for the summer transfer market, the rumor mill in some quarters has started buzzing about the future of the Polish ace at the Allianz Arena.

Bayern Munich fans recently received a huge boost when Robert Lewandowski returned to action, and although the Polish star wasn't able to prevent die Roten from slumping to a shock 2-1 loss to Mainz last month, it certainly was great to see him back on the pitch after suffering a knee injury.

Now that he's back and seemingly fighting fit, Lewandowski will be hoping to successfully break Gerd Muller's nearly 50 year record for most goals in a season. So far, with his goal against Mainz, he has netted 36 times, meaning that he will need five to break Muller's record. Bayern have three more games left, including this weekend's tie with Borussia M'gladbach, but if anyone can do it, it's the 32-year-old striker.

However, this latest update concerning the player won't have Bayern fans so impressed. As per German publication Bild, his agent, Pini Zahavi, has again started making noises about an improved deal for his client. Lewandowski's present deal with Bayern doesn't expire until 2023, so there's a full year even before Bayern would even need to consider sitting down with him and his entourage regarding any kind of contract extension.

Back in 2019, there was a whole kerfuffle about Lewandowski's situation at the Allianz Arena, with teams like Chelsea, Manchester United, PSG, and Real Madrid reportedly being keen on swooping in as the player and the club were at loggerheads regarding his contract, only to eventually see him sign an improved deal extending his stay in Germany until 2023.

It's not surprising, then, with this report coming out of Germany that two of the aforementioned teams - Chelsea and Manchester United - have now been linked with Lewandowski's signature once again. Although he'll be turning 33 in August, he's an obviously proven top notch no. 9 and with a valuation of 60 million euros, would be a lot cheaper than the likes of Dortmund's Erling Haaland, who is the subject of interest of many clubs throughout Europe.

What will be interesting to see if this time around whether Lewandowski opts to move on, or remain put. If he breaks Gerd Muller's single season record, he could potentially stay in Germany as there is still the chance of him retiring at the Bundesliga's all-time top goal-scorer. Alternatively, having now finally won the Champions League with Bayern, the Polish ace could decide this could be finally the time to seek a new challenge elsewhere as he prepares to wind down his successful career.
