The Cityzens have successfully defended their Premier League title but will want to finish the 2022/23 Premier League season on a high note when they travel to face Brighton on Wednesday, May 24th.

What a wild May it has been for Brighton. Roberto De Zerbi's side started this month with a gritty 1-0 win over Manchester United before shockingly losing 5-1 to relegation-threatened Everton in their next game. The Seagulls rebounded in style as they cruised to a deserved 3-0 win over Arsenal, thus ending the Gunners' hopes of winning the title, but then slipped up again as they were crushed 4-1 by a high-flying Newcastle side who now will feature in the Champions League for the first time in decades.

The roller-coaster ride continued last weekend as Brighton once again came roaring back to beat basement boys Southampton 3-1 and effectively secure European football for the first time in club history. At the moment, the Seagulls sit in sixth spot, which will be enough to ensure that they play in the Europa League - provided that seventh-placed Aston Villa don't beat them on the final matchday.

If the Seagulls can pick up a point against upcoming opponents Manchester City, who may still be nursing a hangover following their third straight title triumph last weekend, it will put them in good stead ahead of their final league game against Aston Villa next weekend.

For both Brighton and Manchester City, this game is a make-up fixture, although it will certainly count more for the visitors in their quest to feature in the Europa League next term. Pep Guardiola's men have two huge games coming up next month, with both the FA Cup and Champions League finals set to take place in June. As such, Guardiola is expected to once again rotate his squad for this dead rubber of a match, as well as in City's final league game against Brentford this weekend.

That being said, given that he rested quite a few first-team players in the team's 1-0 win over Chelsea last weekend, Guardiola could opt to give some of those players some minutes to get them match fit ahead of the two upcoming big games in June. To date, City, not surprisingly, have an excellent track record against Brighton, with a whopping 30-plus goals scored in their last 11 meetings. They come into this match having won their last 12 Premier League games and are unbeaten in their last 24 across all competitions.

Will Brighton be able to take advantage of a City side who are certainly focused on bigger tests ahead? Or will the Cityzens, who have won their last 25 Premier League games played on a Wednesday, continue in the same brilliant vein of form that has helped them to successfully defend their league crown?
