La Roja were held to a disappointing 1-1 draw in Saturday's crucial clash with Poland.

Spain had their search for a first win at Euro 2020 postponed after drawing with Poland in Saturday's Group E encounter. La Roja were held to a disappointing 1-1 draw inside at Estadio de la Cartuja despite being the better side for the most part of the game.

After drawing 1-1 in the opening group meeting with Sweden, Spain were eager to get back to winning ways with their group rapidly shaping up ahead of the knockout phase. However, Luis Enrique's men failed to find the all-important winner, having opened the scoring first. Alvaro Morata repaid his manager's faith in him to offer him a starting berth for the second successive game in the tournament by scoring the opener in the 25th minute.

The Juventus attacker will subsequently come under scrutiny once more for missing a handful of goalscoring chances that could have eased the nerves of the Spanish side. To add salt to injury, Gerard Morena squandered a penalty kick by rattling the base of the Polish goal post only for his side's goalscorer to hit the rebound wide.

Morata's inefficiency will subsequently came back to bite the hosts with Robert Lewandowski heading home the equalizer to keep Poland's hopes of progressing to the knockout round alive. As things stand, Spain sits in third position with two points from their two draws so far while the Poles sit at the base with a point. The possibility of the both sides securing qualification to the next round exists although they would have to defeat Slovakia and Sweden respectively. The two teams lead the table with four and three points respectively and at least a draw for both of them should be enough to guarantee them a place in the next round.

Meanwhile, the night's encounter that has put the European title aspirations of the Spain in doubt also presented a huge honor for young Kacper Kozlowski in the Polish side. At the age of 17 years and 246 days, the Pogoń Szczecin midfielder has become the youngest-ever player to make an appearance at the European Championships, overtaking Jude Bellingham's record (17 years and 349 days) set for England six days ago.
