Colombia will aim to extend their unbeaten run in the tournament when they take on Peru at the Olimpico Pedro Ludovico.

Preview

Colombia will hope to secure qualification to the Copa America quarter-finals when they go up against Peru in their third game on the ongoing Copa America. Los Cafeteros have amassed four points from the opening two games in Group A and should be able to secure safe passage into the business end of the tournament with a victory on Sunday.

They began their Copa America campaign with a narrow win over Ecuador, scoring with a brilliantly worked free-kick which was initially ruled for offside until VAR consultation. They followed this up with a disappointing 0-0 draw against Venezuela, an encounter in which Luis Diaz received a red card right on the stroke of the full-time whistle being blown. While Sunday's clash is not expected to be a breeze, Colombia is well-positioned to get Peru's better.

Reinaldo Rivera's men approach the game with a four-game unbeaten run where they have managed two wins and two draws apiece. Their record against the opponent they come up against is also quite impressive as they have not put a foot wrong since 2011. Ten games have been played since the Cafeteros lost against La Blanquirroja. The former managed seven wins and three wins within the period.

For Peru, it will take a lot more than the usual to undo the pain Colombia has inflicted on them for a decade now. The red and whites come into the game with no point since the start of the tournament. They opened the campaign with a 4-0 defeat to Brazil with Neymar Jr, Alex Sandro, Everton Ribeiro and Richarlison all getting on the scoresheet.

Going into their second game of the Copa America, they have recorded just one win in their last 10 appearances across all competitions. Eight of the matches ended in losses with the remaining one being a draw. With their form against Colombia also out of sort, they may need to double up their effort to get a favorable result.

Team news

Luis Diaz will be unavailable to feature in the encounter as he will serve a suspension for the red card he received in the goalless draw with Venezuela. For Peru, they should have a full squad at their disposal to battle Los Cafeteros.

Predicted starting XI

  • Colombia: Ospina; Munoz, Mina, Sanchez, Tesillo; Cuadrado, Barrios, Uribe, Cardona; Muriel, Zapata

  • Peru: Gallese; Corzo, Abram, Ramos, Lopez; Yotun, Tapia; Cueva, Pena, Carrillo; Lapadula.
