A nationwide celebration took an ugly note after at least one Azzurri supporter was killed and others were injuried whilst basking in the glow after Italy's Euro 2020 win.

On Sunday, Italy won their first Euro title since 1968 after beating England 3-2 in a tense shoot-out. The match had gone to extra time following Leonardo Bonucci's equalizer to Luke Shaw's early goal, and after 30 minutes couldn't separate the two sides, penalties.

The win has been the crowning achievement for the Azzurri, who, three years ago, were arguably at their nadir after unfortunately failing to qualify for the 2018 World Cup due to a 1-0 aggregate loss to Sweden. Yet, in the midst of celebrating Roberto Mancini and his team's monumental achievements, some fans in Italy took things way too far.

According to reports from across the country, several people ended up losing their lives and suffering serious injury while the nation were celebrating Italy's inspiring victory. This included a six-year-old girl near Foggia who suffered a grievous bodily injury when her uncle was apparently shot dead by a hitman who used the crowds as a cover to commit his crime.

A 22-year-old man was killed in a car crash in Sicily after rushing to the town square to get involved in fan celebrations, while over 15 people were injured in Milan when a party became out of control. One man ended up losing three fingers in a ghastly accident involving fireworks.

Hopefully, there won't be any more unfortunate incidents as the country will be in full-on party mode for at least the next few days.
