Costa Rica will look to keep their top form going when they take on Suriname in their second game at the Gold Cup.

Preview

Costa Rica will fancy their chances of keeping their 100% record at the 2021 Gold Cup going when they go up against Suriname at Exploria Stadium in Orlando on Friday. Los Ticos ended a poor run that saw them suffer six defeats in succession with a 3-1 win over Guadeloupe on Monday and will look to carry on with the momentum in their second game at the tournament.

Luiz Guzman's men assumed the driver's seat very early into the proceeding, scoring in just six minutes through Joel Campbell. 15 minutes later Ariel Lassiter doubled the advantage with an assist from the first goalscorer before Raphael Mirval pulled one back for Guadeloupe on the stroke of half time. However, a red card to Steve Solvet for violent conduct in the early minute of the second half squashed any chance of a comeback for Jocelyn Angloma's men. The game was finally put to bed with Carlos Borges hitting a third for Costa Rica inside the 70th minute.

With the win, Los Ticos climbed into top-spot ahead of Jamaica who also got the better of Suriname in the other encounter. Against Suriname, the Costa Ricans will hope that the domination they enjoyed in their previous outing will be replicated so as to make their qualification to the knockout stage an easy task. Needless to say, they may be wrong to underestimate the debutant who are yet to show their full capability at the 2021 Gold Cup tournament.

Had they been a tad clinical against Jamaiaca, the narrative would have been different but the opportunity for Suriname to make amends has presented itself to Dean Gorre's side. Unlike the opponents they come up against, they had racked up five wins from their last six outings prior to the commencement of the Gold Cup. It includes a 6-1 win over Bermuda, as well as a 6-0 win over Aruba.

Since then, their fortunes have headed for the downhill with Canada delivering a 4-0 humbling in the CONCACAF World Cup Qualifying game played in June. Coupled with the 2-0 defeat to Jamaiaca, they will need to up the ante if they desire a a better response against Costa Rica.

Team news

Both sides do not have any injury concerns ahead of the encounter and should field their best starting eleven as they aim to win the maximum points to aid their cause to progress out of Group C.
