The Gunners will host Spurs at the Emirates Stadium in what could be the earliest do-or-die tests for these north London clubs.

Preview

The North London Derby is back! Arsenal and Tottenham are gearing up for a highly-anticipated showdown, with these two bitter enemies set to reignite their rivalry on Sunday in their 11:30 a.m. ET affair at the Emirates Stadium.

Both teams enter this clash on the back of contrasting form. Rewind to matchweek 4 in the Premier League, Tottenham were soaring, entering that round with a perfect record thanks to victories over Man City, Watford, and Wolves. Not only did Nuno's men pick up nine points out of a total nine, but the north London giants also went on this run without conceding a single goal, recording clean sheets against those three aforementioned clubs.

It was a completely different case at Arsenal, with the Gunners kicking things off with three consecutive defeats. A 2-0 opening day loss at Brentford shocked everyone while the following 2-0 and 5-0 thrashings at the hands of Chelsea and Man City killed the entire morale. The international break then arrived, handing Arteta's men a much-needed distraction, but since resuming the English top-flight campaign, the fortunes of these two clubs have switched.

Aubameyang and Co. have gone on to win their next two games in the Premier League, beating Norwich 1-0 at home before battling to a Turf Moor victory over Burnley by an identical score line. Spurs, on the other hand, head into this tie on the back of successive league defeats, losing 3-0 away to Crystal Palace and, most recently, at home to Chelsea. Tottenham did overcome Wolves in the Carabao Cup third round over the midweek but that triumph was no confidence-boosting result, having won via penalty shootouts

Then there is the issue of Harry Kane, with the Englishman failing to score or assist a single goal in the Premier League since his failed attempt to force a Man City move. The Three Lions ace is no stranger to scoring in north London derbies and a goal at the Emirates this weekend would be the perfect way to end his barren run. However, given how important these three points are, expect Arsenal to give their all to stopping their city rivals.

This match will be crucial. Given both teams' form and the ruthlessness from the likes of Man City, Chelsea, Liverpool, and Man United; neither side can afford another slip-up in the race to sneak into the top four. While there are many games left to be played this season, one cannot help but feel a defeat could spell the beginning of the end for one of the two managers in charge.

Team news

Arsenal: For the first time this season, Arsenal enter a game with a fully-fit squad. The likes of Eddie Nketiah and Thomas Partey worked up their fitness level in the win over Wimbledon, but only the Ghanaian midfielder is expected to start on Sunday. Granit Xhaka is back from his three-game suspension, with fans wondering whether he will return straight back into the lineup. Alexandre Lacazette, who scored in the midweek Carabao Cup triumph, is likely to return to the bench in favor of Aubameyang.

Tottenham: Steven Bergwijn and Ryan Sessegnon are both out for the visitors but Lucas Moura is expected back for this tie. Son should also return to Spurs' EPL lineup but question marks linger over Tanguy Ndombele's participation despite scoring against Wolves over the midweek.

Key stats

  • Arsenal will be looking to pull off back-to-back EPL victories over Spurs for the first time since 2013/14.

  • The last time Tottenham won a Premier League game at the Emirates Stadium was way back in November 2010.

  • That 3-2 comeback victory is Spurs' only triumph in their last 28 top-flight trips to the Gunners.
