The Blancos commander-in-chief viewed his concerns over state-owned clubs in a recent interview, referencing the Ligue 1 giants.

Real Madrid's relationship with PSG had been excellent for quite some time, but that could be coming to an end as Los Blancos president Florentino Perez has aimed a sly dig at their fellow European heavyweights.

The Santiago Bernabeu commander-in-chief speak to Mundo Deportivo and touched upon the issue of state-owned clubs, a topic that has returned to the fore after the recent Saudi-led takeover at Newcastle. And in that conversation, Perez made reference to Real Madrid's failed attempts to sign Kylian Mbappe over the summer.

The Spanish giants have long been interested in the Frenchman, who recently guided his nation to 2022 World Cup qualification. Upon returning from Euro 2020, the Ligue 1 sensation appeared destined to leave the Parc des Princes for Madrid as he had entered the final year of his contract.

However, despite refusing to sign an extension, PSG, who are owned by the Emir of Qatar, rejected all offers from Real Madrid for the 22-year-old, one of which was in the region of $226M.

"We try to bring in good players and the best. But you have to have the possibility of playing," Perez told Mundo Deportivo.

"Now if we give €200million they wouldn't sell. When the contract finishes it is better, but right now there are crazy state clubs and they won't sell you the players.

"I fight because management is what prevails, it's not money that they give you from the outside.

"The moment will arrive in which the 30 top clubs in Europe are owned by countries.

"That is not the start of the European community. I have come here to fight and to fight from the start."

Seeing a club turn down that much money over a player who will likely end up leaving for free in 12 months' time is worrying even for a team as rich and powerful as Los Blancos. Regardless, the Spanish giants remain on track to land the former Monaco starlet.

There is little to suggest he will sign a new deal between now and next June, meaning Mbappe is all but destined to leave Paris on a Bosman transfer. The attacker, who has scored 12 goals in 19 games for both club and country this season, has previously stated that he only has eyes for Los Merengues, meaning Perez could welcome one of the best attackers in the world for free come this summer.
