The latest round of testing returned more infections on a day the Red Devils resumed training for their upcoming games.

Manchester United have found themselves in the middle of yet another crisis after more positive Covid tests were returned on the same day their players resumed training following a brief lockdown period. According to a new report from the UK, the Red Devils have seen as many as 19 persons contracting the virus in the past 72 hours, putting their schedule for the festive period in serious disarray.

United's Carrington training facility was shutdown on Monday as the players were instructed to spend 24 hours away following their trip to Norwich on Saturday. All operations had been halted amid a Covid outbreak, forcing the club's clash with Brentford on Tuesday night to be postponed as a result. Nevertheless, the Old Trafford outfit was hopeful that they could return in time to prepare for the weekend's meeting with Brighton & Hove Albion at home.

On Wednesday morning, those who previously returned negative results from the PCR tests were allowed into the Carrington training base individually. However, according to the Daily Mail, not less than two players were subsequently sent home after returning positive results in the latest round of testing.

Despite the fact that the first team was not at Carrington on Tuesday, around 130 staff members remained, including the women's squad, Under-18s, and U23s. Following the latest development , United's match against Brighton on Saturday at Old Trafford may be postponed. Earlier, a delegation from the Premier League  were also present at Carrington to guarantee that the Covid protocols were being adhered to.
