Both Liverpool and Leicester will be looking to conclude 2021 on a high note as they prepare to lock horns at King Power Stadium on Tuesday, December 28th.

Preview: Leicester vs Liverpool

For the second time in less than a week, Leicester and Liverpool will renew acquaintances, as the Foxes are set to take on the Reds in their final game of 2021. The two sides met back on December 22nd in the League Cup, which finished as a highly entertaining three-all draw. Ultimately, Liverpool triumphed via spot kicks, and it's safe to say that Leicester will be hoping to get some modicum of revenge when Jurgen Klopp's troops arrive on Tuesday evening.

Brendan Rodgers's men come into this tie having featured in a nine goal thriller against current league leaders Manchester City that arguably was the most exciting match of Boxing Day. Unfortunately for the Foxes, they were on the wrong end of that 6-3 score-line. And injuries have really started to pile up at the wrong time, with both Jamie Vardy and Wilfred Ndidi failing to make the team sheet against City due to hamstring issues. Both players will have to pass a late fitness test, but if they can't make it, it just adds even more of a major selection headache for Rodgers.

Leicester do have two games in hand after seeing several of their fixtures called off, so their tenth placed standing is certainly reflective of them having played fewer games. Liverpool, meanwhile, also do have a game in hand and saw their winning streak in the Premier League snapped as they were held to a 2-2 draw with Tottenham. The Reds are six points behind league leaders City, but again, they have played fewer games. That being said, they'll come into this contest very well aware that Chelsea are breathing down their necks and so will want to ensure they pick up a vital win here and head into 2022 still sitting in second place.

Team news: Leicester vs Liverpool

Leicester: Injuries, injuries, and more injuries is the unfortunate story of the day in the Leicester camp. As of now, the Foxes will have to make do without Jonny Evans, Danny Ward, James Justin, Harvey Barnes, and Wesley Fofana are all still out, along with recent additions Ricardo Pereira, Patson Daka, Caglar Soyuncu, and Ryan Bertrand. Meanwhile, star man Jamie Vardy, as well as Wilfred Ndidi will need to pass late fitness tests.

Liverpool: Liverpool have been given a major boost with the return of Virgil van Dijk and midfield trio Fabinho, Thiago Alcantara and Curtis Jones after all four had to isolate following positive COVID-19 tests. However, Andy Robertson is banned, while Divock Origi isn't likely to feature due to a knee problem.
