Four teams will keep their title dreams alive after a weekend that promises to be one of the most interesting of the season in the Mexican top-flight.

The time has come for Liga MX to hand out its final four spots to play in the Quarterfinals next week, and with that, the Clausura 2022 playoffs will keep fans on the edge of their seats with the four games scheduled for this weekend.

Pachuca, Tigres, defending champions Atlas and América are all waiting to know the identity of their rivals. The teams involved in this round have all the tools to satisfy neutral fans and their own with the brand of football we are going to watch, especially with one of the games featuring two of the most popular clubs in Mexico.

Let us have a closer look at each one of the games that will take place this weekend in good old chronological order.

Cruz Azul vs Necaxa - May 7, 2022 at 18:45 ET

"La Máquina" had quite a disappointing end of the tournament, slipping down from the top spots all the way to eighth place. Only one win in their last five games shows how Juan Reynoso's team went from favorites to take the title home to simple participants, and now they will want to prove all experts wrong by making it to the next round at Necaxa's expense. Los Rayos recovered from a poor start and claimed a spot in this round with three wins in their final four games, and if regular season matches have anything to do with this round, Necaxa claimed a massive 2-1 win during their coach's debut in the tournament, which may give us a hint on how things could go down at Azteca Stadium this evening.

Monterrey vs Atlético San Luis - May 7, 2022 at 21:00 ET

Some may say that this is not the most attractive playoff game this weekend, but if things go the way San Luis wants them to, it could prove to be one of the biggest upsets of the season. Both teams fired their coaches during the tournament, and that bet proved to be effective in the sense of how they got to this stage. Nevertheless, Monterrey have to be considered as favorites due to the talent included in their squad and because of their coach's experience in such a game. San Luis' hopes for success will strongly rely on what Germán Berterame can do, as he became the team's top scorer and clutch player in key games.

Puebla vs Mazatlán - May 8, 2022 at 18:00 ET

La Franja dominated the first half of the season with their impressive form and lucky ends of their games, which granted them some points they did not necessarily deserve. Nevertheless, the end of the regular season saw Nicolás Larcamon's team losing three in a row and winning only once in their last five games, which could be decisive in this tie. On the other hand, Mazatlán FC will be motivated by playing their first-ever playoff match, and if that was not enough, their five-game streak without a loss prior to this stage shows how dangerous a rival they could become for La Franja. Will we get to witness a major upset at Puebla's stadium?

Guadalajara vs Pumas UNAM - May 8, 2022 at 20:15 ET

A game that will easily become one of the most watched in the entire campaign will feature Chivas del Guadalajara hosting Pumas, a club that will get to this stage just days after losing the title in the 2022 CONCACAF Champions League. Since Chivas fired their coach, the team knows nothing but victories, and that four-game winning streak could be the start of something wonderful for El Rebaño for the rest of the season. On the other hand, Pumas will try to find the brand of football that got them to the semi-finals last season when they entered the Liguilla as massive underdogs, but after the embarrassment of losing the CCL final against the Seattle Sounders, it seems that the Mexico City-based team will not be able to give fans something to talk about in the knockout stages of this competition.
