The Greek full-back was the hero of the night as the Reds secured their second domestic title of the season.

Not Salah. Not Mane. Not Jota. Not Diaz. Kostas Tsimikas was the hero of the night as Liverpool defeated Chelsea at Wembley in the FA Cup final. The 25-year-old Greek full-back scored the decisive penalty as the Reds held their nerve in a frantic 120-minute of football action against the Blues.

Mathematically, the quadruple dream remains intact and the opportunity for Jurgen Klopp's men to add to their EFL Cup success presented itself once more at Wembley on Saturday. As it was the case of fate, the Reds were paired with Chelsea - the side they defeated in their last domestic cup final back in February - and, ultimately, they did enough to end the proceeding with the prize on offer.

An end-to-end affair saw both sides missing several goalscoring opportunities, with Marcos Alonso, Luis Diaz, Christian Pulisic and Sadio Mane all coming close to scoring for their respective teams. The stalemates in regulation time ushered in 30 minutes of extra-time and with both sides failing to find a goal, the game was eventually to be decided through sudden death. 

The first set of takers, Marcos Alonso and James Milner, all converted their respective penalty kicks before Liverpool got the upper hand after Cesar Azpilicueta hit the right post with Chelsea's second attempt of the night. Thiago Alcantara fired the Reds in front and Reece James, Roberto Firmino, Ross Barkley, Trent-Alexander Arnold and Jorginho scored in succession. 

The onus was with Sadio Mane to fire the Champions League finalists to another domestic cup success but the Senegalese was denied by his compatriot Edouard Mendy. It was advantage Chelsea when Hakim Ziyech proceeded to score the Blues' next kick but Diogo Jota immediately turned the tide by sending Mendy the wrong way with his attempt. The defining moment came when Mason Mount's strike was saved by Allisson Becker and Kostas Tsimikas stepped up to condemn Chelsea to another domestic final defeat through a shoot-out with the last kick of the night.

Chelsea have now lost three FA Cup finals in a row and five domestic cup finals in a row. Relatively, Tsimikas' penalty gave Liverpool their first FA Cup win in 16 years.
