The Gunners are all but out of next season's Champions League following Monday night's defeat.

Arsenal midfield star Granit Xhaka has hit out at his teammates after their dismal defeat at Newcastle on Monday night put a massive dent in the Champions League qualification aspirations. The Gunners suffered a disappointing 2-0 loss at the St James' Stadium and are now two points behind fourth played Tottenham heading into the final Premier League game of the season.

After falling shot at Tottenham on Thursday night, Arsenal needed to beat Newcastle United to stand a chance in the race for a Champions League place next season. Their penultimate fixture of the season took them to Tyneside and it was there that Mikel Arteta's men were dealt the blow. It was a one way traffic from start to finish, although it took the hosts almost close to an hour to break the deadlock. The Magpies were handed the deserving lead thanks to Ben White's own goal in the 55th minute. With five minutes of normal time left to play, Bruno Guimaraes doubled the advantage by putting the ball into an empty.

With the result, the fate of Arsenal no longer lie in their hands as even if they defeat Everton in their last game of the season, Tottenham Hotspur would have to lose to Norwich City for them to stand a chance of finishing in fourth position. Speaking to the media after the game, Granit Xhaka confessed that Arsenal's performance against Newcastle was dreadful and did not hold back from calling out his teammates.

"It's difficult to find the right words," he told Sky Sports. "From the first minute to the 90th we didn't deserve to be on the pitch.

"I can't explain to you why. We didn't do what the game plan was, not listening to the coach. What happened was a disaster performance. You don't deserve to play Champions League or even Europa League. It's very hard to take it at the moment.

"I don't know why we're not doing what the coach is asking for us."

When queried if inexperience in the squad was a cause, Xhaka added: "If someone isn't ready for this game, stay at home. It doesn't matter your age. If you're nervous, stay on the bench or stay at home. You need people to have the balls to come here and play.

"It's one of the most important games for us. We're feeling very disappointed for the people who came over here. Sorry to them [fans], I don't have any other words. The dressing room is very quiet. The game plan was totally different to what we did over 90 minutes.

"We are waiting for six years. We had everything in our hands. We looked like we were in the position where Newcastle are and they were where we are."
