Most-watched games in the United States: May 30-June 5, 2022

Club football around the globe may be limited to lower-tier leagues and to friendly matches, leaving national teams with the "responsibility" to keep fans busy during this summer break in all top-caliber leagues.

Fortunately for football fans in the world, those matches featuring national teams did not disappoint, with some of the most popular teams in the football arena leaving it all on the pitch to satisfy their fans.

One of those teams involved in a highly-anticipated match was Argentina, who claimed the Finalissima title after beating Italy. Nonetheless, the clash was not the most-watched in the United States during the past week, as that honor fell on the USMNT's lap thanks to their friendly clash against Uruguay. So, in a way, the USMNT "beat" Messi and Co. in the battle for the most-viewed football clash of the week.

Surprisingly, there was only one goal scored among the top three games this week, but what a meaning it had for the team who scored it. Wales' lone goal against Ukraine broke their 64-year-streak without a spot in the FIFA World Cup, which proved quite interesting to watch for football fans in the United States.

France vs Croatia live this Monday at 2:45 p.m. ET on fubo Sports Network and VIX

France, one of the favorites for this year's FIFA World Cup, carry on with their UEFA Nations League campaign, with the world champions hosting Croatia on Monday in what should be a thrilling tie. Les Bleus are yet to hit full gear, having lost in their opening game before drawing 1-1 in their following tie. That stalemate was against none other than Croatia, with Adrien Rabiot's opener being cancelled out by an Andrej Kramaric penalty late on in the tie. The Vatreni also boast a mere point after two matches, suffering a defeat as well in their opener, meaning these two continental heavyweights occupy the last two spots in the group. Victory in this midweek clash could prove crucial in this latest UEFA Nations League season.

The top leagues in the globe may not be as active as you could expect, but the women's game is still giving fans something to talk about.

Women's football fans around the globe have enjoyed some of the most interesting weeks of the season, but that will carry on with the kind of games they will be able to witness this weekend while focusing on one of the most competitive leagues in the world: the NWSL.

The American tournament is one of the few big competitions still being played, since almost all of the European domestic titles have already been handed out. For casual users, this will be a good chance to start following the competition a bit closer, but for those who are diehard fans of this tournament, the games that are scheduled for this weekend will only re-enhance their desire to keep watching their favorite footballers.

Without further ado, let's have a look at what the beautiful game will offer in terms of women's football matches.

2022 NWSL season

The tournament returns to action with the San Diego Wave still holding on to the top spot despite dropping points in their most recent clash, which ended in a two-all draw against the Kansas City Current. The Houston Dash and the Chicago Red Stars made the most out of that draw, as they lay two points behind the league leaders at this point. Elsewhere in the league, the North Carolina Courage, who won the 2022 NWSL Challenge Cup, finally claimed their first win of the season in their clash against Racing Louisville, which ended in a three-nil win.

This week, the Wave will go back home to host the OL Reign, while the Red Stars will try to take advantage of any slip-ups by the league leaders to claim the top spot if they can beat the Orlando Pride. Last, but not least, the Houston Dash and the Portland Thorns will put an end to Sunday's activity in what could be an exciting match to watch.

Biggest stories of the week

Fendi and Roma sign two year deal starting from 2022/23 season

It is set to be a very interesting summer for Roma. The Giallorossi recently won their first ever European title last month by beating Feyenoord 1-0 in the inaugural UEFA Europa Conference League, and now they will be really keen on keeping hold of key personnel such as star striker Tammy Abraham and current coach Jose Mourinho.

Off the pitch, things are moving as well, with the capital-based club now adding a new sponsor to their resume. As announced by Roma themselves recently, the Giallorossi will be partnering with Italian luxury fashion brand Fendi for two years, starting from the start of the 2022/23 season.

Fendi, which has roots in Rome, is looking to further expand their association with the city, notably adding Roma to its logo and having fashion shows at the historic Colosseum as well as at the Trevi Fountain in recent times.

The brand will provide a range of items for the men's team to wear - both in formal and informal situations for the 2022/23 and 2023/24 seasons.

It is another unique collaboration for Roma, who in recent times, have added companies such as New Balance, Konami, Hyundai, and Digitalbits to their roster.

Huge concern for Arsenal as Man City and Liverpool are eyeing Emirates Stadium star

After ending the 2021/22 Premier League season in heartbreak by missing out on a top four finish and UEFA Champions League football, Arsenal's goal for this summer is to strengthen their squad and mount another push to return to Europe's premier club competition.

Unfortunately, not only are they facing tough competition for some of their key targets, but the Gunners could also be in for a fight to keep ahold of one of their star players. That person is none other than Bukayo Saka, the highly-rated Hale End Academy graduate who has risen to become one of the English top-flight's most promising attackers.

According to the Daily Mail, the two best teams in the country are closely monitoring the 20-year-old and they are Manchester City and Liverpool. As per the article, the Citizens have "stepped up their interest' in Bukayo as the Englishman heads into the final two years of his current Emirates Stadium contract.

This puts the Premier League champions on par with Liverpool as the two clubs monitoring his long-term future in north London after the club missed out on UEFA Champions League football yet again. Interest from the two isn't surprising. Both clubs could do with a wide forward, with Riyad Mahrez being linked with a move away after a mixed season while Klopp could soon lose two key men in the form of Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah, who are entering the final year of their contracts.

However, the article adds that a raid this summer is unlikely as there is little to suggest Saka will force an Arsenal exit immediately. Contract talks are on the agenda for Edu and Co. as they aim to offer the Englishman a new deal to secure his future. It will be interesting to see what wages he will demand, though, as he is now the club's key man in attack, having finished the recent season as their top scorer.

Details for Salah's reasons to snub new deal with Liverpool revealed

Mohamed Salah was supposed to have a say on his future right after the end of the UEFA Champions League, but the game has come and gone, Liverpool lost, and the Egyptian ace is yet to make a decision about his future. Today, a report has dropped a major hint on why Salah is yet to step up and discuss a contract extension publicly, and it seems it will not be good news for Reds' fans.

According to a report by The Mirror, the Egyptian footballer is ready to snub all offers to extend his deal at Anfield in favor of making a shocking move to another European giant. The only condition to see that deal becoming a reality would be for Salah to become a free agent next summer, which would see him earning quite a handsome fee at his new club.

The team that has offered Salah a handsome deal under those conditions is none other than Barcelona, who have asked the player to snub all incoming offers from Liverpool to facilitate his signing next season.

This new development would explain why Salah went from almost securing his extended stay at Anfield to refusing to speak about his future beyond his inner circle, who revealed to The Mirror how things stand between the club and the footballer.

Only time will tell if Salah's reported choice to join Barcelona is the right one for his career, but it would surely be a bold and interesting move to witness next summer.

Wales crush Ukraine's World Cup dream to book first appearance in 64 years

Ukraine's dream of securing another World Cup berth came to a disappointing end following Sunday afternoon's defeat to Wales in the playoffs final. Gareth Bale's first half strike proved to be the difference maker for the hosts, who will be making an appearance in the tournament for the first time since 1958.

It was far from a stroll in the park for Robert Page's men as it took a lot of grit from the whole team and the heroics of goalkeeper Wayne Hennessy to contain the Ukrainians. Right from the beginning, the visitors had a number of good chances to score but could not quite find the breakthrough.

In the 34th minute, they were made to pay for their inefficiency with skipper of the side Andriy Yarmolenko redirecting Gareth Bale's free-kick into his own net to give Wales the advantage. The West Ham attacker sought to make amends by helping his team find the equalizer but could not manage a decent shot at it with Hennessey proving to be unbeatable in goal for their opponents.

In the end, Ukraine's dream of securing their first World Cup appearance since 2006 could not manifest as Wales booked their first in over 64 years. The Dragons will as a result battle the United States, England and Iran at the mundial in November later this year in Qatar.

Ecuador could be "expelled" from World Cup; Chile likely to take their place

According to reports, Ecuador may be finding themselves in hot water with FIFA due to an issue regarding one of their players. The South American nation are accused of falsifying documents for Byron Castillo to make it look as if he was born in Ecuador, but in actuality, the player was reportedly born in Colombia.

As such, if Ecuador are kicked out, Chile could be the team called in to replace them. Although some reports, especially from Italy, are claiming that the Azzurri could be the ones brought in due to their higher FIFA-sponsored ranking, it seems highly unlikely as FIFA would want to make sure there is balance at the tournament.

That means that indeed, if Ecuador are expelled, Chile could be given a desperately needed lifeline to feature at the tournament later this year.

Pogba aims dig at Manchester United as search for new club continues

Speaking in a YouTube show called Uninterrupted, Pogba hinted that money should not be an issue when choosing his new club. Instead, the Frenchman said that the main thing he will be looking for before he signs a deal with a new team will require that team to show him some love or respect, hinting he did not feel that during his six-year spell at Manchester United.

"Everybody wants to feel loved, everyone needs that in your soul to feel appreciated. Everything you do even when you grow up, when you do a good thing you like to hear well done, nice, it's always been like that even adults we need that," Pogba said.

Harry Kane closes in on Wayne Rooney's record with 50th England goal

England left things late to secure their first point of this year's UEFA Nations League campaign, drawing 1-1 with Germany in their second group stage game. The Three Lions were delivered from the cusp of defeat after Harry Kane bagged his 50th international goal from the penalty spot very late into proceedings.

The Tottenham Hotspur striker stepped up and sent Manuel Neuer the wrong way for his 50th international goal for England. After 71 appearances, he is now the second player in the history of the Three Lions to score 50 international goals, surpassing Sir Bobby Charlton (49) on the all-time chart. At the moment, he is just three goals away from equaling Wayne Rooney's record as the England's all-time top goalscorer.
