About

Sat.1 History, Coverage, Features

Sat.1 is a German televisión channel. It is considered to be the first privately owned TV network in Germany after its launch on January 1, 1984 as PKS. It would be rebranded as Sat. 1 on January 1, 1985 and has kept its name ever since. It is owned by ProSiebenSat.1 Media and it has eight different “sister” channels.

Sat. 1 has been considered over the years as a general entertainment channel, with its wide variety of topics including children’s shows, entertainment programs, general information shows, TV series, reality shows, talk shows, and sports. The channel’s initial broadcasts included American entertainment shows such as Wheel of Fortune, but now most of the content aired by Sat.1 is produced in-house, although there are still some TV series in the channel’s schedule that were produced in the United States.

Speaking about sports, Sat.1 in has covered a wide variety of disciplines, including football, boxing, motor sports, and more. One of the most discussed sports events aired by this channel is the 2012 UEFA Champions League final between Bayern München and Chelsea, which was followed by over 20 million fans in Germany via this channel.

Sat.1 is available to watch on both SD and HD. Added to that, the channel can also be found on cable and satellite tv companies in Austria, Switzerland, and Liechtenstein.
