TVRI History, Coverage, Features
TVRI is a public television channel from Indonesia, which is operated by Radio Republik Indonesia. This channel was launched on August 24, 1962 and worked as the only television channel in the country for 27 years, when the first private television channel saw the light in this country.
Over the years, TVRI has developed a reputation as a general interest channel, with news, educational programs, entertainment shows, sports, and cultural shows. TVRI’s feed has also added content from most of its regional networks, which add depth to its programming.
Speaking about sports, TVRI has been used as an overflow channel for major competitions that may be aired on this channel. TVRI has also frequently aired games for cup competitions such as the Coppa Italia and national team football for the Indonesian national team. Nevertheless, most of that content has been relayed to TVRI Sport, the network’s specialized sports channel.
TVRI was launched as a Standard Definition channel, but a High-Definition feed was developed and launched on December 21, 2010, becoming the first digital channel in the country. Both feeds may still be available for users to watch in different regions of Indonesia via the Indonesian terrestrial television grid or via pay-tv carriers across the nation.
