Matchday 4 of the 2020/21 Premier League season has wrapped up and what a round it turned out to be. The standout game heading into the weekend was obviously Man Utd vs Tottenham and that match did not disappoint, with Spurs thrashing the Red Devils 6-1.

That was not the only headline-worthy result as defending champions lost 7-2 – yes, 7-2 – to Aston Villa, the team that survived relegation on the final day of last season. Elsewhere, Arsenal and Chelsea secured crucial victories, beating Sheffield and Crystal Palace 2-1 and 4-0 respectively.

As for Man City, they went for a second straight match without victory, drawing 1-1 with Bielsa's Leeds. Here are the standout stats from the recent Matchday.

Man United and Liverpool both entered the history books on Sunday, but for all the wrong reasons. As mentioned above, the Red Devils lost 6-1 to Tottenham after going down to 10 men while the Merseyside giants were thrashed 7-2 at Aston Villa. This was the first time in history that England's two most successful clubs conceded 6+ goals on the same day!

Man United have only played three games this season but have lost two already. Those two defeats came at Old Trafford – first against Palace then against Spurs. This is the first time in Premier League history that the Red Devils have lost their opening two home games of the season. It's also the club's joint-biggest EPL defeat.

Aston Villa 7-2 Liverpool – the Reds disasterclass put in numbers

This was probably the most shocking result in recent Premier League history. Liverpool, the defending champions and the best team in England by a mile, visited an Aston Villa side that escaped relegation on the final day of 2019/20 and lost 7-2. As a result, the Reds became the first reigning champions to concede seven goals in a single game in over half a century since Arsenal in September 1953. It was also Klopp's joint-biggest defeat as manager and the first time the Merseyside giants have let in seven goals in a single game since April 1963.

Arsenal 2-1 Sheffield – the Gunners maintain lovely home form despite narrow win

Arsenal took on Sheffield on Sunday and after a frustrating first-half performance, the Gunners turned it up a notch in the second half and secured a 2-1 victory over the Blades. Goals from Saka and Pepe earned the north London giants all three points in what was their 29th point at the Emirates Stadium under Arteta, a home record beaten only by Liverpool since the Spanish tactician's arrival.

Great weekend for Everton, a not-so-great one for Leicester

Everton are the surprise league leaders heading into the international break. This come after their 4-2 victory over Brighton, a result which maintained their perfect start to the season. They have also won their opening seven games across all competitions this term and it's only the second time in history they've achieved this. Leicester, however, did not enjoy a great weekend, losing 3-0 at home to West Ham. The Foxes failed to record a single for only the third home game since 2003/04.
