The Dortmund ace sparked anger from the Spaniards with his actions but has offered an explanation.

Erling Braut Haaland enjoyed another historic night in the UEFA Champions League yesterday, helping Dortmund reach the quarter-finals after the 2-2 draw with Sevilla. The Norwegian sensation scored both goals, completing a brace in under an hour to win the fixture 5-4 on aggregate.

Despite this record-breaking performance, the 20-year-old was involved in some controversy during the 90 minutes. The former Salzburg sensation got into a bit of a tussle with the Sevilla players after taunting the opposition player when celebrating his second goal.

That strike came courtesy of a penalty. Haaland initially saw his attempt saved by Bono but after a check by VAR, the Moroccan goalkeeper was caught off his line and thus the spot kick was retaken. Erling did not miss the second time and after finding the back of the net, he tauntingly charged at the opposition goalie in celebration, sparking anger from the Spaniards.

Speaking after the full-time whistle, the BVB star was asked about the incident and what caused him to act in such a manner. The striker revealed that it was merely "karma in this world" after initially being mocked by Bono over his first penalty attempt.

"He was too far [off his line]," Haaland said, as per Goal. "If he stood on his line, I would have scored that one - and that's what happened on the second one.

"I missed and then he cheated. Then I took it again and scored when he didn't cheat.

"When he was screaming in my face after the first one, I was thinking 'it will be even better to score another goal' - and that's what happened, so it was nice."

Erling was asked what he said to Bono during that incident, to which he answered: "I don't want to say. I don't know what it means but I said what he said after I missed the first one.

"Maybe it's karma in this world."

Despite this, the entire footballing world was left in awe after another impressive display from the 20-year-old. The Bundesliga goalscoring machine has now written his name in the history books, breaking two UEFA Champions League records. The Norwegian ace surpassed PSG talent Kylian Mbappe to become the youngest player to reach the 20-goal mark in this tournament, pulling this off at the age of 20 years 231 days compared to the previous record of 21 years 355 days. Furthermore, he also became the player with the least number of games needed to reach the 20-goal mark, hitting this figure in 14 appearances, 10 fewer matches than the previous record holder Harry Kane (24).
