Potter's men travel to the Signal Iduna Park for the first leg of their round of 16 showdown but will be without one key attacker.

Chelsea are gearing up for European action this midweek, with the Premier League giants resuming their UEFA Champions League campaign on Wednesday with their round of 16 showdown with Dortmund.

Unfortunately, the Blues, who were looking to this fixture as an opportunity to forget all about their dreadful Premier League form, have been rocked with a huge blow ahead of their trip to the Signal Iduna Park as one key attacker looks set to miss that tie.

That player is none other than Raheem Sterling, the mega-money summer signing who is yet to hit the ground running at Stamford Bridge. The Englishman had just worked his way back from injury, but according to the Athletic, the 28-year-old is unlikely to feature in Wednesday's 1st leg tie.

The Three Lions star was first sidelined back in January during his team's 1-0 defeat at home to his former club Manchester City. Sterling made his return just over a week ago, coming off the bench in the 0-0 draw with Fulham.

However, the winger has picked up another knock after taking a kick to the knee, Potter revealed. Raheem, who is the club's joint-top goal scorer in the UEFA Champions League this season with two goals, was unable to take part in Tuesday's training session, meaning the boss will likely be without the four-time Premier League winner.

This is a concern for Chelsea, who have only three wins from their last 15 games across all competitions. The London giants head into this tie on the back of their 1-1 draw at West Ham and desperately need to return to winning ways.

Additionally, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Chelsea's other top scorer in Europe this term, is unavailable after being removed from the club's UEFA Champions League squad in order to make space for January signings Joao Felix, Enzo Fernandez, and Mykhaylo Mudryk.
