The player decided to take part of the game between La Roja and Colombia despite injuring himself in the moments before the clash.

It was not an easy international break for Chile, and it could get even worse for one of their main men after a bit of recklessness on the pitch.

Tuesday's World Cup Qualifiers in CONMEBOL featured Chile against Colombia, with Arturo Vidal included in La Roja's lineup. The veteran midfielder seemed to feel pain during the warmup session ahead of the match, but he decided to play the game anyways.

After 70 minutes, Vidal asked to be subbed off due to an issue with his left knee (the one he injured during the team's warmup exercises). Minutes later, "King" Vidal left the stadium in tears while riding an ambulance.

Today, the national team and Athletico-PR have confirmed that Vidal underwent surgery to heal the injury picked up by Vidal, hinting that the footballer could be out of action until 2024.

"Good recovery, Vidal! Arturo Vidal suffered an injury to his right knee last Tuesday during Chile's match against Colombia. After evaluation by imaging tests, a meniscal injury was identified, requiring an urgent surgical approach to unlock the knee. The procedure was carried out today, in Santiago, Chile, by the Chilean National Team's medical team, monitored by Athletico's Medical Department. Vidal continues to recover and is under the supervision of the club's Medical Department."

The 36-year-old midfielder just joined Athletico after a short stint with Flamengo, where he had several problems with former Chile boss, Jorge Sampaoli. While the player could still make a comeback if he stays healthy, his age and his long history of injuries have us thinking about a possible end to his career.}

Furthermore, the player has proven time and time again that his habits off the pitch could slow down his recovery, which only means his time as a professional footballer could come to a close
