Jose Mourinho's exit left a lot of dry eyes among Manchester United fans, since most believed his time with the club was rather disappointing and failed to live up to the hype. Despite those thoughts shared by many, the Portuguese boss seems "determined" to go back to Old Trafford, especially if the club continues with its shaky form and Erik Ten Hag is sacked by the new administration, led by Sir Jim Ratcliffe.
In an interview published by the Daily Mail, members of Mourinho's closest circle revealed that the Special One has "unfinished business" with the Red Devils, which would see him gladly joining the club if asked to do so. As per the article, Mourinho believes he could work properly with Sir Jim Ratcliffe, who is expected to lead a big overhaul next summer.
The coach believes that Ratcliffe's involvement would do wonders for his cause, mainly because Mourinho struggled quite a bit when hiring reinforcements due to the team's transfer policy during his time at Old Trafford. If given the chance to return, Mourinho reportedly believes he could do wonders for the team.
Now, if things go Mourinho's way, he would also have to make amends with fans and, more specifically, with some of his former pupils, who were harshly criticized by Mourinho after he left the club in 2018.
"There are still people in that club, when I say people I mean some players but also some other people that are not players, that are still there when I told United after two months: 'with these people you are never going to do it. And they are still there," Mourinho said.
Anthony Martial, Luke Shaw, Marcus Rashford, and Scott McTominay are the only remaining members of Manchester United's squad during Mourinho's stay at the club, and it is known that "Mou" was never fond of either Shaw or Martial.
If Manchester United continue their current path, it would not be strange to see Sir Jim Ratcliffe choosing another coach. Nonetheless, given his performance with the club, it seems a bit far-fetched to see Mourinho making a comeback to Old Trafford. Only time will tell if the Special One gets one last dance with the Red Devils.
