The annual curtain-raiser for the Bundesliga season is set to get underway this weekend as Bayern Munich face RB Leipzig in the DFL-Supercup.

For the second consecutive season, the DFL-Supercup will feature Bayern Munich vs RB Leipzig. Bayern, thanks to winning the Bundesliga once again last season, will be making their 11th appearance in a row in this competition since it was rebranded as the DFL-Supercup in 2010, while die Roten Bullen will be hoping that second time will be the charm as they take on the side who beat them in an entertaining eight goal thriller last season.

It's been a very interesting summer for Bayern Munich, who narrowly scraped by Borussia Dortmund to win the Bundesliga title on the final matchday last season. Die Roten have had quite a few players depart, including Sadio Mane, Yann Sommer, and Lucas Hernandez, but have sought to bring in reforcements, with Napoli defender Kim Min-jae snubbing several Premier League sides to sign with the Bavarian titans, while Bayern are still keen on bringing in Tottenham ace Harry Kane as they aim to find a top center forward to help them make inroads in the Champions League.

RB Leipzig have also seen some key players depart, namely with Christopher Nkunku, Josko Gvardiol, and Dominik Szoboszlai all moving on after securing big money moves to Chelsea, Manchester City, and Liverpool respectively. Die Roten Bullen had a rather topsy-turvy 2022/23 campaign, which saw them struggle horribly under Domenico Tedesco before Marco Rose was able to turn things around and help the team secure a third-placed finish. In addition to having qualified for the Champions League, Rose was able to ensure that Leipzig won at least one trophy last season after beating Eintracht Frankfurt 2-0 in the DFB-Pokal final.

Having lost 5-3 in this same fixture last season, Leipzig will be hoping to get revenge on Bayern, but given their opponents' history in this competition, that will be much easier said than done. All in all, many fans worldwide will be eagerely awaiting this tie as it signals the start of the 2023/24 Bundesliga campaign, which many will be hoping will be as exciting as the most recently concluded one.
