The Argentine superstar prevented celebrations from being postponed by scoring an important goal for the hosts.

Paris Saint-Germain have been confirmed as the champions of the 2021-22 Ligue 1 season after Lionel Messi inspired them to a 1-1 draw with Lens at the Parc des Princes on Saturday night. The Parisians needed just one point to be named as the champions, and ended up securing just that to clinch their 10th-league title.

With qualification for next season's Champions League on the line, Lens proved to be a tough nut for the hosts to crack. An uneventful first half which saw both sides failing to break the deadlock paved the way for the game to be brought back to life.

In the second half, it took Lionel Messi just 23 minutes to reintroduce himself by finding the back of the net, putting Pochettino's side in the driver's seat. However, they were denied the satisfaction of securing the three points, with Corentin Jean scoring the game's equalizer for 10-man Lens in the 88th-minute - just six minutes after being substituted on.

The result propelled PSG's points tally to 78 after 34 matchday, making it impossible for second-placed Marseille to potentially catch-up in the title race. On the contrary, several Paris Saint-Germain fans are said to be angry with their side and staged a 75th-minute walkout. The club's head coach Mauricio Pochettino also occasionally booed and jeered.
